WARREN — The wins kept on coming for the East Bay Warriors in the Rhode Island-Southeastern Massachusetts Pop Warner Football League Pee Wee and Jr. Pee Wee ranks as the local entries each defeated sides from Old Rochester Saturday, Oct. 8, in town at Vets Park.
The Pee Wees improved to 5-1 for the fall after their 22-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Going into the game O.R. was undefeated and had outscored their opponents 130-12 on the season. The first half was a defensive battle until East Bay marched off a 70-yard touchdown drive. Matt Ditondo scored the games first touchdown and Ryan Ramos added the first of his two extra points to give the Warriors an 8-0 halftime lead.
The Warriors added two more scores in the second half by Jake Ribeiro and Val Aiello. Defensively the Warriors were led by Brandon Scott, Zack Francis, Trevor Arruda, Ashton Begin, Caden Cabral, Damien Mendoza, George Simmons and Hunter Medeiros. Offensively the great blocking of James Oaks, Branden Smith, Nick Finney, Sean Gill, Julius Perrotti, Jaydin Silvia and Anthony Reed led to many Warriors first downs on the day.
The Warriors moved into second place in the division standings with the victory. East Bay plays next Sunday, Oct. 16, at Sakonnet.
The Jr. Pee Wees also improved to 5-1 in the league standings with a 32-7 win over Old Rochester. The game was closer than the score would indicate, in fact the Warriors were only ahead 12-7 at halftime.
But the Warriors overcame three touchdowns that were called back and played an excellent second half of football to pull away for the for the win. Warrior touchdowns were scored by Max Moskala (two), Nick Gerling, Joey Penkala, and Josh Pompey.
The defense came up big while holding Old Rochester to one touchdown. As usual, Cam Nappi played like a monster and had some huge hits from his linebacker position. Moskala also made some big plays from his safety/cornerback position. Pompey and Matt Defelice played strong as defensive ends, and Marc Furtado, Shane Hollands, James Marshall, Joey Lane, Devon Borges, Nick Viveiros, Jayden Periera, Dylan Berube, Ben Iiams and Eric Sousa were among the Warriors to have very good defensive games.
The East Bay Jr. Midgets collected their second win of the season after the locals defeated the Portsmouth Patriots Saturday, 28-8. The victory ended a three-game losing skid.
The Warrior defense was unstoppable in forcing 4 turnovers which led to the Warriors first score on defense this season. The offense was led by Cameron Morenzi, who found the enzone three times, including a 47-yard pass from Sam Hollands. Isaiah Jones scored on a 63-yard run down the side line. The Warriors also had great defensive plays from Mike White, Jason Gadry, Corey Cardoso Ryan, Teixeira and Will Alfred. Subs David Marshall, Logan Leblanc, Caleb Harrington and Elijah Ramsay also contributed key plays on both sides of the ball.
