Chores before breakfast

Coggeshall Farm, 1 Colt Drive, Bristol, continues its Breakfast in the Barnyard series from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Spend the morning getting up close and personal with the museum’s rare-breed livestock and join the costumed interpreters to help with morning chores. After chores, help cook jonnycakes on the hearth of the 1790s tenant farmhouse. Dress for a morning in the barnyard. Cocktail competition

Newport Grand, 150 Admiral Kalbfus Road, Newport, is mixing things up this year for its annual martini contest at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22. In this “Iron Chef”-style event, contestants compete at the same time using a secret ingredient that’s introduced just before they begin. The winner gets $500. Indoor farmers’ market

The indoor farmers’ market at Mt. Hope Farm, 250 Metacom Ave., Bristol, continues Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon. Vendors in the barn will include Wicked Natural Products, Maplewood Farm, The Coffee Guy, The Cupcakerie, Foxboro Cheese, The Local Catch, Aquidneck Honey, Aquidneck Farms, Provencal Bakery, Windmist Farm, Mapleville Farm, Wishing Stone Farm, The Reynolds Farm, Hill Orchards and Wholly Granola.

Organizing your kitchen

Learn kitchen organizing secrets from a professional organizer in a free seminar from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Center Ace Hardware, 156 County Road, Barrington. Lisa S. Griffith of The Organized Way will demonstrate how to organize kitchen tools and food supplies so you can find what you need quickly. Eat and cook local

Spend an evening at the Coggeshall Farm Museum exploring what it meant to eat local in 1790s Rhode Island. A “Historic Foodways Workshop: An Evening with Amelia Simmons” is from 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, Feb. 25, March 10 and 24, April 7 and 21 and May 5 and 26. The museum on Poppasquash Road is a historic working farm. Using Amelia Simmons’ “American Cookery,” the first American cookbook, originally published in 1796, guests will prepare several “receipts” at the hearth using produce raised on the farm before sitting down to enjoy dinner by candlelight. The workshop is limited to eight participants and is for ages 16 and up. It is $60 per person ($50 for museum members). Soup Tasting Buffet

The fourth annual Soup Tasting Buffet to support our troops will be held by the Front Line Ministry for Freedom on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Central Fire Station, Railroad Avenue, Warren. There will eight different soups to enjoy and then you can vote for your favorite. There also will be rolls and butter, hot and cold beverages and an assortment of desserts. The Warren Fire Department will run a raffle that day to help support the troops as well. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children 4 to 12, and free for the little ones. The ministry has been sending care packages to the men and women overseas for four years now and has shipped over 350 packages.

Rhody beer, cheese pairing

They’re two great tastes that go great together. Five Newport Storm beers will be paired with five Narragansett Creamery cheeses at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Newport Storm Brewery, 293 JT Connell Road, Newport. Surf & Turf Fund-raiser

Members of Rough & Ready Fire Co. Engine 5 will host their annual Surf & Turf Fund-raiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the station house, 342 Metacom Ave., Warren. The menu features baked stuffed shrimp, steak, baked potato, corn, salad, rolls and butter, desserts and assorted beverages. All food will be prepared to order and served by company members. Tickets are $22 from any company member or call Cullen McKain at 401/440-4100. The company uses much of the proceeds to support youth and charitable organizations and other community service projects.

Macaroni and meatballs

St. Mary’s Church is hosting a macaroni and meatball supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Franklin Court Independent Living Community Room, 150 Franklin St., Bristol (use the Wood Street entrance). On the menu is homemade meatballs and macaroni, salad, bread and butter, beverages, coffee and dessert. There also will be entertainment by Doug Botelho. The cost is $10 per person. German beer hall dinner

Redlefsen’s Rotisserie & Grill, 444 Thames St., Bristol, hosts a German Beer Hall Dinner in its function room at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25. Enjoy German food and beer and live music and performances by the Alpenblumen Bavarian Dancers. Seating is limited and reservations are required; call 401/254-1188.

Breakfast buffet

A breakfast buffet sponsored by the Portsmouth Rotary Club is from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center at 110 Bristol Ferry Road. There will be pancakes, french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, juice, coffee and tea. Tickets in the office or at the door are $7 for adults and $3 for children under 10. All proceeds benefit the senior center.

Corned beef dinner

A corned beef dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 10, sponsored by Washington Lodge 3, F&AM, in the Masonic Hall on Baker Street, Warren. On the menu is potato, leek and fennel soup; corned beef brisket, boiled cabbage, pickled beets and glazed carrots, and tossed salad. Tickets are $10. Children under 12 are $5. Dinner, comedy wedding

A benefit dinner for the Michael J. Mercurio Scholarship Foundation is on Saturday, March 17, at the Our Lady of Light Band Club, 664 Quarry St. Fall River. Featured is “Manny and Theresa’s Portuguese Wedding” by The Out of the Gutter Comedy Group and music by DJ Unlimited. Doors open at 5 p.m., with dinner and the show at 6.
