Ann M. (O’Shea) O’Brien, 80, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, surrounded by her devoted and loving family.
Ann was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Coughlin) Shea of Warren. She graduated from Warren High School in 1949 and worked for the New England Telephone Company. In 1956, she married the late Gerald D. O’Brien. They moved from Warren to New Britain, Conn. for a brief period before making their home in Enfield, Conn.
Ann resided in Enfield where she raised her family. She was a summer resident with her family at Sun Valley Campground, Stafford Springs, Conn. for a number of years. Later in life she attended Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, nd she became a strong advocate for the Post-Polio Support Group. Over the years Ann participated in various creative writing groups, as she had a flare for capturing a picture through words. She was a retired employee of G. Fox & Company.
For the past five years, Ann made her home with her dedicated daughter Mary and son-in law Brain and family in Heath, Mass. Ann loved the tranquility of the woods and all its offerings. She volunteered at the Shelburne Village Information Center and appreciated the beauty of the gardens on the Bridge of Flowers. Ann was an accomplished gardener, a skilled quilter, and a needle worker.
She leaves her children, Patricia (Robert) Urban of Oldsmar, Fla., Kelly (Russell) Tencza and their children, Daniel, Colleen and Elizabeth of Meriden, Conn.; William and his partner, Michael Roy of Manhattan, N.Y. and Mary (Brian) Vilbon and their sons, Christopher and Jeffery of Heath. She was a sister of her late brother Edward, and leaves two sisters, Margaret Rabbit of Rehobth and Helen Gauthier of Brooklyn, Conn.
A celebration of Ann’s life will be held Friday, Jan. 27, at Heath Union Church in Heath. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to West County Relief Fund (WCRF), C/O SFABA, P.O. Box 42, Shelburne, Mass. 01370.
